Thinking of what the best long-running to-date still together bands are. For me, there's an easy top 5:— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
Stereolab
Wire
Yo La Tengo
Low
Liars
a number of criteria I think have to be established in order to qualify for this I think:— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
1. The band needs to have been together for at least 10 Years
2. The band has to have released, at minimum 4 albums over this time (sorry, Portishead)
3. The band has to have not broken up for over 10 years during its tenure nor stopped releasing any material for over 10 years (sorry MBV, Godflesh)— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
4. their discography needs to be marked more by high quality material rather than spotty patches (ie, Rolling Stones)
5. The band should be together longer than they were broken up.— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
This is really hard. Wire barely qualifies but for a Wir single I'm counting in the late 90s. though I'd consider most of their solo/sides within the Wire lineage, they prob don't count
Stereolab only just recently reassembled and its unclear if there will be new material- last LP was 2010. Liars recently became a solo act but I'm including them. I wouldn't include other "bands" that are essentially solo/vanity projects— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
The Bug/Nine Inch Nails both have participating players that weave in and out but are essentially solo projects. Other acts are full bands but really ego projects making it easier for them to stick together (Bad Seeds, Magnetic Fields, LCD Soundsystem)— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
and then there's Junior Boys and M83, two groups I adore but who went from Groups to solo acts early in their careers.— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
Not sure how I'd just someone like Devo- who never officially broke up but only released the occasional oddity through the 90s and 00s- they do have some pretty poor material that probably sinks them ultimately— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
Bands are pretty rock-centric units. Can't think of any hip-hop units that'd even qualify. Wu-Tang I guess still puts out albums but to what end? De La Soul and Tribe have had fantastic second acts, but were away for far too long inbetween— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
pretty cliche to say Radiohead, but they really are a rare band that qualifies here. Everything they do is at least worth a listen. Ditto the Flaming Lips who have some bad catalogue entries but ultimately would still make the criteria— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
Depeche Mode is still surprisingly strong too. The Cure's new stuff bores me, but I guess they could make the list. New Order too- though who knows if they're together on any given day— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
electronic acts are also exceedingly rare. The only two I can think of with enough staying power that are not pure solo acts these days are Basement Jaxx and Chemical Brothers, who are both still solid (Prodigy was even better but probably can't include without Keith)— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
honorable mentions to Au Revoir Simone, Animal Collective, Ladytron, Deftones, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Bat for Lashes- all still producing good if not always peak material and likely qualify— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
You could maybe cheat by saying Slowdive since they turned into Mojave 3 and then back into Slowdive but Mojave 3 were never that good. Seefeel likewise turned into Scala and back to Seefeel, were slightly better but I think there was still a big gap— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
I guess Boards of Canada technically qualify too- can it count though if they're brothers?— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
RIP REM, Sonic Youth, other long running units— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
Gorillaz can probably get an honorable mention- never been my favorite, but at least a B- band for their full career, Blur too for that matter— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019

not sure I've heard a Roots album in 10 years, but I imagine they're still good enough to qualify so maybe that's the one hip-hop band— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
Yo La Tengo has got to be the only one that just consistently drops an album and it's always good though— The Parabola Group 🌹 (@wildcorrective) July 7, 2019
