Weird 2016

I think often of Warren Ellis's Injection, in which a group of researchers discover that the future was going to be a long trough of stagnation, with no real creative discoveries or innovation on the horizon.  Their (hauntological) solution is to inject the internet with an AI unit to see if it can pull something out of our past that might make things a little more interesting. But all doesn't go to plan and things take a turn for the nightmarish.

Kinda neatly sums up 2016, don't you think?
